My teaching style is to lecture with examples while students are following the process and understanding what needs to be done and how. Then myself and the students do the hands on together so they can either do the exercise from memory or follow my directions. Once the exercise is complete, I give them time to do it themselves. I repeat the materials at the end of each section and the end of each chapter and encourage asking questions. Training can be delivered in person for 1 student or a group. VB.net is one of my top subjects! My experience centers around usage in VBA in Excel (Visual Basic for Applications). This is the language that is used by Excel to create macros.

After I completed my degree, I started working in the government contracting industry as a number cruncher (Pricing Analyst) for proposals. Proposal work tends to be quite challenging and that is where I learned the most about Excel and how to do efficient reporting. I was also fortunate to work with several of the Washington, DC area's Excel experts and eventually became an expert myself. I have worked with large (>$10B a year in revenue) to small (<$10M a year in revenue) firms and continue work in the field supporting an $80M company as the defacto "Excel Guru" and Pricing expert.

My formal background is in mathematics and statistics. I have been a computer programmer since 1984 for companies including Intel and Motorola. I am a devout reader in a wide swath of topics and authors. My yearning has been to mix scientific exploration while performing a social good.
Open and flexible.Rule #1 is to listen to the student. Rule #2 is to teach the other the way I would want to be taught. My preference in teaching is to first teach the student the practical side of things. Can the student perform the basic calculations for example so as to pass the exam. Once the student has developed a "gut level understanding", then I can move onto the more theoretical understanding of the topic, depending of course on where the student is at. I try to make math relevant to life for math is a metaphor.
