I began working as a Math Tutor in the Spring of 2012. I tutored three students through Club Z Tutoring, a publicly-funded tutoring organization. I also tutored a student in Pre-Calculus during the same time period. This student was introduced to me through Allison Neal, head of a private tutoring agency. Experienced Math Educator

For more than 20 years I have been making math come alive for my students. I have taught both at the high school level and the college level and worked one-on-one with my students in and out of the classroom. My curriculum experiences ranges through Algebra 1 to Calculus 2 and Statistics. In High School, I have been an AP Calculus and AP Statistics teacher for 15 years.

Most Math books recommend teaching for about half the class and then let students work some problems in class. I find this works well, it allows questions and the class becomes interactive. I encourge questions while I am introducing a subject and find it gives me a chance to use different examples to get a poinnt across. Any assignments I give outside the classroom can be addressed in the next class.
I started teaching right out of college. Taught high school and college part time for 6 years. Left teaching for the computer business where I worked for 36 years. Retired from HP in 2001. Went back to teaching. I taught at Mount Royal Academy in Sunapee, NH for 7 years. I taught College Algebra and Pre-Calculus at River Valley Community College i Keene, presently as an Adjunct faculty member.

My teaching style is simple but effective. With mathematics and physics, the student retains an idea, with the added benefit of a solid intuition if he or she is fortunate enough to work through a problem using his or her's own insights. Guiding the student with the systematic offering of penetrating questions seems to be one of the most powerful methods to aid in the understanding of mathematical and physical phenomena.

As a recent college graduate, I received a dual degree in Electrical/Computer & Systems Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. During my time there, I was a teaching assistant for Calculus I for two years. This job included conducting one hour classes 2-4 times a week to review and master basic skills needed to accomplish the course successfully. I graduate May 2009 from Simmons College with a BS in Biochemistry. My courses taken during my undergraduate career were heavily focused in the sciences. I’ve taken upper level chemistry, physics, biology, and math courses. I tutored a student in zoology for a brief period of time. I was also a teaching assistant for Organic Chemistry I and II labs.
