My career in education includes a wide range of experience. I began as a substitute teacher covering for classroom teachers ranging from preschool to the 12th grade. My innate teaching abilities became evident and I was highly sought after. Returning to college to earn my teaching certification, I gained experience in special education teaching summer school. I student taught 3rd and 4th grade, then was hired to teach 5th grade which I did for 2 years. Returning to my love of special education, my taught for another 3 years. I fundamentally believe anyone can learn. If a student isn’t grasping a concept, it just means I have to change my style of teaching. My passion is making mathematics accessible. After high school I was underwhelmed by mathematics. However as I took more math in college, I realized how much I had missed in high school. As I learned more mathematics, I became determined to make it my business to find and implement better methods of educating people on mathematics in a way that does not overwhelm them, but simultaneously makes their learning experience more useful. I studied teacher education as an undergraduate, and attended graduate school at Dartmouth where the program in mathematics has a specific focus on preparing one to teach mathematics.
