A Little Bit About Me...

After years in the field of automotive repair, I took an old hobby and turned it into a career. I attended Oakland Community College where I came to understand my abilities, and at the suggestion of professors, went about to earn a BA in history combined with teaching certification in history, political science, and social studies. After completing the BA, I felt that I had merely opened the door to historical thought and process, and continued toward a master's degree. I spent a number of years as a substitute teacher, both long and short term, and with the completion of my MA, returned to Oakland Community College as history professor.

In 2007 I had the wonderful opportunity of being one of two teachers at the Ann Arbor Academy's lower school for students with learning disabilities. I have worked as a Teacher's Assistant for three years where I did extensive tutoring with one student over the course of the year. I substitute taught for two years where I learned a great deal about schools, particularly elementary schools and their various curriculum and expectations for grade levels. As well, I was a full time tutor and mentor for students at Pine Ridge Academy for a year while I lived in Burlington. I also teach the second grade religious school class at my temple. I am also a substitute teacher for a day school. I am currently in graduate school at Eastern Michigan University where I am pursuing a credential in k-12, emotional impairment and learning disabilities.

I currently teach Adult Education; High School Completion with Detroit Public Schools from 08/2508-present. I relocated to West Palm Beach, Fl. from Southfield, Michigan back in July 2004 and taught 6-7th grade Language Arts/Intensive Reading at both Lake Shore Middle and Palm Beach Central High for Palm Beach County Schools from August 2004-June 2007. I feel that working with disadvatnage students has helped me in becoming an even better and more efficient educator because of my emphatetic nature and drive to see all my students' successful both in and out of the classroom.

I thoroughly love teaching as I come from a line of teachers myself. I have demonstrated that learning happens on multiple levels depending on what level one is working on. In my experience, I have learned that understanding is a process which involves listening, question and answer, humility, multiple approaches (including mixed media, visual and audio stimulus, humor, etc.), and a general openness to learn.
