During 13 years in the pharma industry, I used my skills to succeed and earn awards, honors and patents. After 12 years as a mentor and volunteer, I changed my career because I really enjoyed working with young people. I decided to change my career through a MAT program which included a student teaching experience. I taught math to a mixed ability class using a constructionist philosophy where students discover and explore topics in math rather than having the topics dictated to them. I have had a successful career as a medical scientist in hospital, government, and reference laboratories in the northeast and southern U.S., holding bench, supervisory, and leadership positions. I have two college degrees with published articles, and two national certifications, all in the sciences. For the past eight years I have been a substitute teacher and tutor in thirteen urban, suburban, and rural public school systems in Connecticut.
