A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching needs to adjust with each student or class, because everyone has their own flavor for learning. I tend to let the student take the lead at first, and then I try to guide them through the areas they're questioning. It's like a car on a road with a new driver: the student is driving all over the road, and I need to gently urge them into the right lane (or the correct answer). I also like to use real world examples when I can from my past experience, and encourage the student to do so as well.
When I first started college, I had no idea what to major in. I started taking creative writing and literature classes though, and found my niche in English. As a fresh graduate I feel the need to be a part of academia. Tutoring is the perfect opportunity for me to strengthen my abilities while simultaneously helping students achieve success. With students, I help to make them better writers by helping answer questions, presenting questions, working through the brainstorming and paper-writing process, and helping with formatting. After I received my degree in Elementary Education, I was a substitute teacher in IA for one year. I then worked, taught and advised at a small private college in Iowa. I have also owned and operated a daycare in my home for over three years. Currently have have spent the past two years as a substitute teacher for the Buffalo, MN school district.
