I have a relaxed teaching style that makes my students feel comfortable and interested in learning. I believe I transfer my passion for my subject to my students. I am able to draw on my extensive work and “real-world” experience, which students seem to appreciate. I have an informal manner, yet I expect much of my students. I expect them to do the work required and to have good attendance at the teaching sessions. I teach best through “hands-on” methods, allowing students to learn by doing.
I have worked most of my adult life in education or journalism, and I was able to combine my two passions as a journalism professor at the college level for several years. Having earned my college degrees as an adult, I am particularly interested in assisting adults in achieving their educational goals. I taught GED Preparation courses for seven years at the local Adult Education Program and assisted approximately 30 students in obtaining their GED. English and math were the main subject matter for these tests and study/test taking skills were reviewed. In my current position as the Executive Director of a local human service organization, I have flexibility in my schedule to meet the needs of a student.
