A Little Bit About Me...

As passionate of a student as I am, I equally enjoy being an active part in another’s understanding and learning towards a new and challenging subject. I love working with high school and junior high students. I understand that the struggle and challenge of learning new material can be so enormously overwhelming and difficult for some it can be deemed impossible. I primarily focus myself on patience, empathy, and comfort. Students will discover they are capable of accomplishing so much more when they place themselves in the appropriate environment with the correct support system and slowly defeat the fear of failure while embracing the rewards of learning. I can see the potential in any individual and will never give up on a student.

I believe that education is the most efficient way to combat any issue. I, therefore, feel that it is essential for youth to find success throughout their academic journey. I approach work with youth from a strengths perspective. As a result, I am able to quickly assess a young person's assets and skills that will help him or her access education in the easiest way possible. I think it is important to cater to each individual's learning style, whether that be visual, audio, or hands-on learning. It is my goal to help youth of all ages realize, and gain the tools to reach, their full potential.
Improving the lives of children has always been a passion of mine. While my academic background has had a focus, primarily, in the social work realm, my overall philosophy for working with youth emphasizes patience and education. I have sought opportunities working with both young chil ... read more

As a University of Southern Maine graduate, I look forward to having my own classroom where I can touch many students' lives. I have earned my BA in General Science with a concentration in Earth Science. I tend to use the many experiences that I have learned from in my own classroom and with students that I can help. I have not been a tutor before, but have had several teaching experiences. I was thinking that tutoring would help me solidify my philosophy of teaching: "Allowing kids to explore the possibilities. Anyone can do what they put their mind to."
I love teaching and working with children. There is nothing better to me then seeing a student discover something new and being excited to learn. I am a new teacher and my goal will be to include several hands-on experiences in my classroom. Part of my philosophy is to give students choice when it comes to producing a pro ... read more

I am a determined, enthusiastic, and highly motivated person that enjoys being challenged and working with children. I take great pride in being a teacher and being part of a child’s life. In my experience working with children, I have seen the value, benefits and the importance of including other colleagues, administrators, parents, and the community into a child’s learning. A Little Bit About Me...

I think it is important to understand that everyone can learn, however it is just a matter of how long it takes. Kids learn at different paces. They may need to be shown a different way to learn. For example, I believe that children learn to read by understanding the book, through meaning. It's important to discuss what is happening in the book. I have a guided reading lesson plan that tells me exactly what I need to work on with that student. Is the student looking at the pictures to help him/her with a word? etc.. I am very patient and kind. I love working with kids and seeing their faces light up when they have achieved certain goals.
To whom it may concern, I have taught as a classroom teacher, a Title I teacher, and as a special education teacher. All of these experiences have given me skills I use as a teacher. I have a love of books and enjoy sharing them with childr ... read more

I enjoy teaching and use a variety of different methods. I incorporate different activities into each lesson to reinforce what we have learned. With my younger students I also incorporated a lot of music into the class that helped them with their verb conjugations, pronouns, etc. To keep the students' attention I am always keeping them moving, whether it be with an activity or just simply writing phrases on the board. I encourage them to be speaking in French constantly throughout the class.
I have been teaching at the Community College. I have students that range in age from 17 years old to 55 years old. I am enjoying teaching very much and would like to add to the teaching I do. I also taught for one year at the Tri City Christian Academy in Somersworth, NH. In that class I had students ranging in age from 11 years old to 18 years old. For the last three years I instructed K-12 students in environmental science and outdoor recreation programs, as the executive director of a nonprofit educational partnership. This involved designing and presenting lessons in collaboration with public school teachers. I received a Commissioner's Award from the Maine Department of Education in 2007 for my work with at-risk students. I also serve as the part-time Service Learning Coordinator for a local school district. In years past, I have also taught adult education courses in a foreign language (Norwegian) and in wilderness navigation.

As a valued member of the ANA faculty and team I continually worked to lift the standards and proficiency of all the students that I taught both directly and indirectly to prepare them for the rigors of high school and college. As the English Department Chair I mentored and provided leadership to the staff I supervised as well as my fellow colleagues. I earned a BS in Education as well as a Certification in TESL. During my many years of teaching I have mentored and tutored students in English, History, ESL and Study Skills (which focused on time management, organization, note taking and test taking skills as well as building self-esteem.) I have an extensive background in volunteering and in promoting anti-bullying programs.
