Learning Can be Easy and Fun!

I am very patient and I make sure the student thoroughly understands a topic before moving on. I motivate the student to succeed and teach good study skills and test taking skills. Normally, I use the student's textbooks and classroom materials during our lessons. For standardized tests, I use prep books, such as Princeton Review. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always loved to teach – even as a child in front of a tiny blackboard in my living room, playing school with my sister. Since then, I have continuously sought opportunities to teach outside of my daily school and work life. As an undergraduate at Middlebury College, I volunteered to teach beginning German at a local elementary school. After college, I taught seventh-grade Faith Formation at my church and also led monthly, 3-hour Confirmation preparation classes. My college coursework helped me develop excellent reading, writing, and language skills, but I am also competent in math and could easily tutor that subject on a grade school level.

Coming from a poor background I was very much determined to change my family economic situation. I work hard and smart to make this happen and in the process I have acquired training and learning skills that will empower students from every background. In 1998 I founded a non-profit organization GHAPE and I have been providing varied trainings to the needy to explore their potentials. In 2008 I was an adjunct professor at the University of Bridgeport. I will again be teaching one course to undergraduate in the Fall of 2010.

The key to a good teaching style is creativity and adaptability. It is the job of the teacher to adjust his teaching style to fit the needs of the student. Some students respond well to visual cues; such as drawings in the case of teaching English as a Second Language. Others will respond to verbal instruction and still others will respond best to written instruction. The key is to determine what style best suits the student.
