My preferred method of teaching is use of visual aids and examples. I have an extensive background in the computer industry. I have worked at many client sites where I was designated as the on-site trainer for different types of computer software for the staff. I was selected because of my ability to adapt to any situation quickly and for being capable of explaining based on the level of understanding of the person I was training.
I have more than 29 years in the computer industry with fortune 100 companies using various types of computer software. My teaching style varies depending on the age and needs of the student. When I worked with younger children, I often made up a game to help the children learn the material while having fun. Even with older children I tried to make learning interactive and suit their personality. I also varied the amount and type of aid given based on the student’s needs. While I do think learning should be suited to the individual, I do require that the student focus entirely on studying during the tutoring session. I truly enjoy teaching and learning, and I have high expectations for the student's progress.
I graduated summa cum laude from Berea College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. I haven taken many courses in biology and chemistry. I have taught in all elementary grade levels. I taught preschool for 2 years, taught kindergarten 1 year, taught 7-8 grade remedial Math for 1 year. I then taught in the same K-12 school for 28 years. I taught the 4th grade for 26 years where I taught English, Reading, Writing, and Social Studies.
