I thrive in one-on-one and small group scenarios where I can identify the learning styles and strengths of each child, and cater to their individuality. When I taught swimming one summer at the YMCA, I quickly became the favored instructor for kids aged 3-8, especially those in the extremes: fearful and fearless. The fearful children needed to be coaxed into confidence so that they could feel safe and proud to succeed at their own pace, while the fearless children needed firm but loving boundaries to ground them in safety and discipline so that they could be freed up to push themselves to their full potential. I double majored in Biology and English with a Bachelor of Science degree from a very well known, highly esteemed University in Wisconsin. I went to Taiwan for two months from March-May 2010 and helped teach in a "Bushiban" or cram school to kids aged 6-15. I am currently looking for a full-time job relating to my degree. Conversational. From what I learned in Taiwan little kids are not for me. This is the truth. Kids at about 14 or 15 and older are much preferred. I don't think I am animated enough for younger children...well, not a GROUP of younger children anyway. When it comes to one on one though, it is much different I am sure. As a California State University graduate, I was driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I have earned two bachelor of science degrees, BS in Biology and BS in Marine Biology, which has enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas of math and science. Although I have worked mostly in Film and Television since graduating from University, I returned to the University of LaVerne in Athens, Greece in 2004 to tutor foreign students in essay writing and to help hem with their entrance exams. I worked there part-time (3 days a week) for 2 years. I continued tutoring 2 students privately for another year. In 2009 I tutored after-school English at DeAnza Middle School in Ventura for approximately 6 months. I am a very caring teacher. I love to use humor and encouragement in the hopes that the students will feel inspired to continue and flourish in their writing, even after our time together is over.
