As an undergraduate student at East Carolina University, I expanded my knowledge in the field of pedagogy and gained experience in different classroom settings. In the midst of my junior year, I taught students in an after-school art class. This opportunity gave me the chance to work with children in a formal teaching environment. During my practicum, and while teaching a summer art class, I learned how to alter my teaching style for students of all ages and abilities. From 2008 until February of this year, I taught English at a private school in South Korea. My teaching style is adaptive. I believe everyone has the capacity to learn. The approach to learning is what makes the difference. Being a mother, I love children and am very patient. I also know that kids have their own distinct personalities and I address each child as an individual person, with their own talents and ideas. There is nothing better than when a person's face lights up, young or old, when they "get it."
