Educated professional - Alternative tutor

I worked in after school progrmas all through college and generally enjoy helping children study. I am very engaging, patient and relate well to any age child or young adult. I am not a proto-typical, traditional "tutor" in that I never studied education in a pedagogical sense, but I am highly educated and always made high grades in every level of school. I may can help where the traditonal teachers/tutors have been unsuccessful. I have no specialized training related to ADD/ADHD other than I have been diagnosed as such since high school. History geek, Arabic student.

I can be formal, especially with younger students, but am accustomed to tutoring my peers in a relatively informal setting.
I graduated with honors with degrees in history and economics from the University of Texas at Austin. I am an obsessive student of history, specializing in the history of the British Empire in the 19th century, with a 70 page thesis on the subject that I am in the process of getting published. A Little Bit About Me...

I typically employ the Socratic method: asking questions to discover what the student knows (or thinks he knows) and guiding his thinking toward discovering the knowledge himself. Both my three children and my Scouts have declared that they enjoy my teaching because it engages their interest and because it is frequently humorous (when the subject and the occasions permits). I really enjoy the company and conversation of young adults and find I often learn from them as they are learning from me.
