A Little Bit About Me...

From January 2006 through August 2008, I worked part-time as a freshman composition instructor, writing lab tutor, and teaching assistant for the English department at UNT. As an instructor, I taught two classes per long semester and one, intensive summer session. During the fall semesters, I taught Composition I, which introduced students to a variety of writing concepts, such as the personal essay and the visual text. The students wrote five papers, three to five pages in length, with each paper designed around one of the concepts. Educated professional - Alternative tutor

I worked in after school progrmas all through college and generally enjoy helping children study. I am very engaging, patient and relate well to any age child or young adult. I am not a proto-typical, traditional "tutor" in that I never studied education in a pedagogical sense, but I am highly educated and always made high grades in every level of school. World History is one of my top subjects! I taught World History during my student teaching to high school sophomores in Lubbock, Texas. I also just finished my MA in Medieval History, after studying many cultures in European history.

History geek, Arabic student.

I graduated with honors with degrees in history and economics from the University of Texas at Austin. I am an obsessive student of history, specializing in the history of the British Empire in the 19th century, with a 70 page thesis on the subject that I am in the process of getting published. As of June 2013 I will have just returned from a full year in Egypt studying Arabic after four years of studying Arabic in Austin, including a summer in Morocco, as part of a Defense Department program for critical language study. I typically employ the Socratic method: asking questions to discover what the student knows (or thinks he knows) and guiding his thinking toward discovering the knowledge himself. Both my three children and my Scouts have declared that they enjoy my teaching because it engages their interest and because it is frequently humorous (when the subject and the occasions permits).
