A Little Bit About Me...

After earning my BS in Elementary Education from Indiana University I took a teaching position with INSCCAP in 2008. My primary responsibility is to assess development and individualized education needs of the children in my class. I continually annecdote my students abilities and based off of those observations I create activities and lessons that focus on the subjects/ skills I see my students struggle with. In 2009 I became a homebound instructor with Monroe County's School System. I am responsible for working with children who hold IEPs and can no longer work successfully in a regular classroom. I believe in problem-based tutoring for algebra, and construct problems based on the textbook problems whenever possible. I let the student try the problem first, watching closely for any mistakes, and then teach the rules as necessary, and summarize mistakes after each set of problems. However, I can also teach all the rules beforehand if a student has been absent from class. For chemistry, I reviewed class notes with students and then explained the fundamentals whenever there was a question, and then did practice problems with the students.
I have two years of tutoring experience in college chemistry with the University Learning Center at Penn State. I tutored over twenty students in college chemistry. I am currently tutoring and mentoring a student in High School algerbra and chemistry for free.
