My comments on tutoring Shakespeare : I have been a state-certified teacher of English and French for 18 years.

My teaching style...? I do not have only one; part of the point of tutoring is the ability to truly tailor styles/strategies to individuals or small groups. I must say that I am the funniest person I know, and I crack myself up all the time. Humor is always one of my favorite/best strategies.
I am a certified teacher of French and English; I have taught both subjects at the middle and high school levels for 18 years. In addition, I have 6 years of tutoring experience before becoming a teacher. I have worked with students of all ages, elementary through college. I am one course shy of my Masters' in French. I have worked with inner-city middle school students for more than 10 years, through a program called "Math Corps." (Google it.)

I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. My major was English Literature, with a double minor in French Language and Communications. I am also a certified composition peer tutor, assisting students in Composition I, Composition II, and graduate level papers. I have also written procedural instructions for positions. My teaching style is very holistic. I want to empower students to discover and employ their voices. My approach to tutoring is to make learning fun and exciting for students. I have to learn what they find interesting and apply it to my lessons and style. Not every student likes the same things, or learns the same way. I am a huge advocate of Howard Gardener and his Multiple Intelligence Theories. Using different techniques and new, fresh ideas will maintain the student’s interest. My style of teaching is quite practical. Initially, I assess the student's needs by talking to the parents and reviewing previous work. Once the immediate and long-term goals are decided, I begin the sessions with consistent review, introducing a new objective, implementation and general assessment. All of this is accomplished with discussion, writing, various resources, reading and fun activities. Continual assessment of the student's needs is vital to planning each session.
