I am not a professional teacher, but I played one in newsrooms at several newspapers. During a span of 20 years as reporter, sports writer, copy editor, section editor and editor-in-chief, I trained many new hires -- and even a few veterans -- in spelling, grammar, punctuation, comprehension of written material and in writing. I did not take graduate classes, but I did take the Graduate Record Exam. I scored in the upper 15% in both Verbal and Essay. I do not consider myself a classically trained scholar or academic. My knowledge comes from practical experience and in knowing study approaches in advance of taking standardized test.

In 2003, I earned Bachelor's degrees in Accounting and Psychology. In 2006, I earned my Master's degree in Business Administration. I wrote and defended a 50+ page thesis to complete this program. Attaining two degrees has opened my eyes to many different teaching styles and ways of learning. I believe that the most effective way to learn and teach is to explain concepts and theories thoroughly before any application of these concepts. I believe that in order to really learn a subject, and not just memorize it, the theory must be understood.
