Before earning a BA in Biology at Skidmore College and after graduating high school, I took three years off to play hockey. Concurrently, I enrolled in classes at Mount Wachusett Community College in Massachusetts and tutored in the math department. I tutored students in algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, and some calculus. At Skidmore I continued in math, taking calculus I, II, and III, and linear algebra before focusing my attention on molecular biology. I habitually studied with my classmates and I found great satisfaction helping others understand complex subject matter. I prefer a “vertically integrated” teaching style. Science is a continuum, with complex topics being reducible to simple concepts. I will work with a student to break down difficult topics that are already problematic, and help them synthesize concepts into an integrated whole as new topics arise.
My education consists of a Bachelors of Arts degree in chemistry, with a minor in biology and significant field experience in academic research in both fields.
