For drama and public speaking, I prefer to be highly interactive and enable the student to discover and create his/her own art with knowledgeable guidance and lots of discussion and performance experimentation. I like to use a series of techniques and exercises to build confidence and creativity in the performer.
I completed my undergraduate degree in Dramatic Arts in 2011. I have directed several theatrical production and dramatic scenes. Additionally, I have worked 1 on 1 with many students on dramatic pieces and monologues for auditions and competitions. Shakespeare is one of my top subjects! I have taught Shakespeare in grades 7-12 and on the university level. I was awarded a scholarship where I studied Shakespeare in London for 3 weeks.

Student centered instruction is the approach I use in my instruction. That means that the student's needs and learning style direct the way the information will be delivered and activities that will guide the learning. Students learn best by doing, so I only lecture for small amounts of time.
I have taught for 12 years in both a private and public school in Greenville, SC. I am currently teaching at Anderson University but in the classroom and on-line. Originally trained as a teacher of Drama and English, I subsequently spent many years working in the theatre, not only in educational situations but also as an actor, director and writer. I am now semi-retired, but still enjoy working as a teacher, and I currently teach animation and drama. I would welcome the opportunity to do some tutoring in language skills.
I have always found that the first and often most important thing a teacher can do is find the obstacles to learning that we all suffer from and seek ways to remove them. These may be the so called "blocks" that may develop after negative early experiences, preconceptions about the subject, or simply lack of confidence. I was a substitute teacher for many years on the elementary and secondary levels. In 1997 I went back to work full-time as a special education teacher in a Christian school. I will tailor my teaching to the individual student. One thing I've learned in my education program is that some kids learn visually while others learn auditorily, and so on. I believe in critical thinking; that is one skill that is lacking in school and in society generally.
