I first tutored for two years during high school when a family friend asked me to help him teach kids chess at four elementary schools. I thoroughly enjoyed these experiences and developed a patient tutoring style that emphasizes critical listening. I continued to tutor in college, after a professor recommended me to the Central Washington University Writing Center. I trained with eighteen other students and was one of five selected to continue in practicum classes for the 2008-2009 school year. I have an extensive background in physical sciences: BS in Chemistry, extended coursework in geology and a minor in physics. When my children started in school, I would go to their elementary school classes and teach basic physical science concepts. I spent most of my high school and college career honing my writing and reading ability, and through four years of English classes I have developed excellent writing skills. Additionally, my computer and internet knowledge has grown through my studies and professional work. I feel comfortable with all styles of writing, and enjoy discussing writing and reading with all age groups.
