A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience as an instructor while in the Marine Corps, and during that time I have found that I am really suited to teaching. The idea of giving new knowledge to people of all ages is an exciting one. I have done some substitute teaching at Athens Elementary School. I have found that I get along well with children and that they like me.
I have found that children like me and will listen to what I have to say. I try and teach the best way possible according to each child's needs. I am patient and will take as much time that is needed to teach your child. To me time is of no importance compared to children's need to learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always loved working with children. Through my experience as a special education instructor, I have learned children can learn in a variety of ways. My teaching philosophy is that each child has different strengths, and it is imperative to tailor an educational program to these strengths. By highlighting what a student is good at, their confidence is increased. This confidence will help them overcome academic obstacles. I believe that teachers play a huge role inthe success of their students, and that with the right support system, any child can acheive their academic goals.

The school of Education in North Carolina prepared me well. I am above all flexible. My license reads K-8 and I have taught Art K-6 for a year, Second Grade for two years in NC. Then in 2001 I taught Title One reading in TN for a year then Fourth grade for three more years. My family moved to Northern VA and I taught Fifth grade there for two years before moving back to TN for a year where I taught 8th grade Algebra, and 7th grade English. Since moving to Maine I have only had oppurtunity to work with alterative special Ed with grades 6, 7 and 8.

Knowing students as people is extremely important when teaching as it allows for a teacher to choose methods that work best for the individual student (learning styles and multiple intelligences come in to play here). Students should feel both safe and comfortable in their learning environment so that they may reap the most benefits from education. I believe that all students maintain the right to learn in an environment that is safe as well as conducive to learning. All students are interested in something and it is imperative that we, as teachers, find that something and mold it so that it fits to the education needs of the students.
