A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style reflects the way I learn best. I find that hands on learning is by far the most effective, a fun educational memory is much easier to recall than a set of hard facts.
I am a recent graduate from SUNY ESF with a passion for education. I am proficient in many fields of science, ranging from earth science to limnology. Although I've never professionally tutored, I have experience teaching middle school groups about aquatic entomology and forest ecology at Clark's Reservation. I have taken several classes where I learned to design lesson plans and how to properly communicate with varying age groups.

LESSONS SHOULD ACCOMMODATE STUDENT LEARNING STYLES

My belief is that all students have different learning styles. Therefore lessons need to be individualized to meet student needs. In order to be successful students need to be engaged by creative teachers. My teaching experience has taught me to accommodate these needs when developing lesson plans.
I have 15 years of teaching experience with special needs students in a rural school district. During this time i provided private tutoring sessions for Elementary, Middle, High School and College students. At the college level my tutoring experience is with reading, writing, study skills and organization. Currently I develop educational programming for incarcerated youth.

I have helped tutor since I was a freshman in high school. I began working with kindergarteners through third grade students on reading and writing. Throughout my sophomore year of high school I tutored middle school math students (ages 11-14) and helped to train our "Mathalon" team. My junior and senior years of high school I mostly helped biology students prepare for the regents exams, as well as continued in the after school reading program for kindergarteners and preschoolers. In college I began tutoring many students for the spanish regents exam and continued helping others prepare for their biology and chemistry regents exams. Although I have not had the opportunity to officially tutor many college students, I was a Teaching Assistant for BIOL101 and CHEM101 (freshman level chemistry and biology) for SUNY Cortland.

Mostly upper level science classes. Also experienced in preparing for health related graduate and undergraduate exams including the GRE, MCAT and the NLN entrance exam. My comments on tutoring Life Science : My specialty is in Molecular Biology but I have some experience in general Life Science.

Though my experience is mostly in molecular biology, it can be expanded to general life sciences. I have just completed a PhD in Genetics at Cornell University with a minor in biochemistry and during my graduate experience, I lectured as a Teaching Assistant for the Introduction to Genetics class for 8 semesters.
My teaching style consists of asking leading questions to enable the student to learn how to think through problems on their own.

More About This Tutor...

I spent much of my time helping others to improve in many areas of life. I just graduated from graduate school to obtain a masters degree in counseling services. This has provided me with the certification required to work in a school as a guidance counselor. While attending graduate school I continued my coaching at the 7th and 8th grade level as a head wrestling coach and two years (1 yr JV) coaching football. I have also spent the past four years as a substitute teacher for all ages and subjects. I have also been a private tutor in which I provided instructional support for students individually in academics, as well as improving self-concept, goal setting, coping mechanisms, and social and organizational skills.
I pride myself on helping to create and improve a vast array of skills while providing the students with a strong foundation of what it takes to be life-long learners. ... read more

As a chiropractor and business owner, I am teaching everyday. People need to understand how to create health and that they have the potential to be the engineer of their lives. Wellness and personal development are the keys to vitalistic living but easily overlooked in our stressful world that emphasizes the mechanistic, "react to crisis" mode of function. I am reversing a great deal of old thinking, which can be daunting but very satisfying when someone I am teaching and coaching finally experiences personal success.
I like to motivate with stories and interactive discussion. Most of my teaching involves drawing out someone's talents and inspiring them to reach for something better in themselves. There is a great deal of fear and trepidation when someone tries to change anything whether it is health behaviors, relationships, personal performance, etc. My secondary purpose is ... read more

I feel as though every student will have their own niche. They will have a special subject that they enjoy the most and one that they despise. I think that figuring out how the child studies for the subject they enjoy will lead to an understanding of how to motivate that student to learn the subjects that are more difficult for them. Also, if the student's teacher stays positive and pushes him or her towards success by means of positive reinforcement they will succeed.
While studying at SUNY ESF I held a position as a teaching assistant for Western Civilization. This involved grading exams and papers, preparing and giving lectures, and holding office hours to assist students with any questions or concerns they may have had. I also spent time volunteering to teach and after school science club through ESF Outreach for elementary / middle school aged children.

A Little Bit About Me...

I really enjoy working with students of all ages. One of my favorite parts about being a tutor is working with students in small group or 1:1 settings. I have a great deal of experience working with both students with disabilities and students without disabilities. I believe that each student is different and tutoring allows for the student to focus on the way that they learn best. Depending on the age of the student, I also believe that they can play a role in determining which ways they learn best and how they feel they can be most successful.
Throughout my undergraduate time at Le Moyne College, I worked as both a tutor and substitute teacher. After graduation, I continued to work as a tutor and teacher while I pursued my Master's Degree. Once I finished graduate school I began teaching full time as a Special Education teacher. I have worked with students in all grades ranging ... read more

I can identify and help students with learning disabilities because I myself have a learning disability. Although I myself was considered to be a slow learner and I had (and still have) dyslexia, I never the less taught myself how to study and how to get through high school, college, and graduate school. I can help the students on their own level because I have been there and I know how frustrating it can be to have to study without having the right tools. I not only tutor students but I also give them the right tools to be able to study and learn for themselves.
I have spent most of my career in helping students with learning challenges and other special needs. My strongest asset is that I am very good at teaching students on a one-to-one basis. I have tutored a lot of students who are considered to be slow learners or who have some kind of learning disability. When I first starte ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Understanding each student's learning style is key to providing quality instruction. My background in assessment helps me determine baseline data for each student so that I can track progress toward agreed-upon goals and objectives. I firmly believe that students must be shown good models and that clear directions which clarify their misunderstandings helps them become competent with necessary skills and processes. Parents of students I have taught often expressed appreciation for knowing how their children learned and focusing instruction in that manner. With my wide experience at the elementary, college, and adult levels along with my work with English Language Learners, I know that I can provide a quality teaching style that will support a student working toward established goals.

I love to work with children everyday. I believe children have different learning styles and it is important to find out each child's learning style to better meets their academic needs. I aso believe that teaching through a constructivist approach is important. Children learn by discovery. Each child can reach their ultimate potential if they are given the right academic tools.
I graduated from Kutztown University with my Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education. During my educational track I completed three student teaching experiences. In addition, I have and am currently a lead teacher at Childtime Learning Center.
