A Little Bit About Me...

Throughout my experience at Otterbein, I worked in a variety of classrooms ranging from a Preschool to 3rd grade. I have experience in both suburban and urban schools working with children of varying abilities and skill levels. I completed my official Student Teaching experience in a Kindergarten classroom in a suburban school in the Westerville City School District. My comments on tutoring Elementary : I'm an Elementary Education major, getting ready to finish my last semester of classes at Western Governors University. I also substitute teach for Lewis County Schools, and I volunteer in the library by assisting students with their reading. I've passed all my Praxis exams required for being a teacher in the state of Kentucky, and I LOVE KIDS. I also spent almost 9 years teaching English as a Foreign Language in China, 1 year in Beijing, 7 years in Tianjin, and 1 year in Taiwan. I've taught students from 3 years old all the way up to around 65 years old, which included pre-school, up through all of the grades of grade school, and even into college and university-level courses.

I've got around 8 years of college and university work under my belt, and I am getting ready to finish a BA in Elementary Education from Western Governors University. I love teaching. I got the teaching bug while teaching English as a Foreign Language in China. I taught there for almost 9 years altogether, 1 year in Beijing, 7 years in Tianjin, and 1 year in Taiwan. I now work as a substitute teacher for Lewis County Schools and I also volunteer in the school library where I help struggling students with reading.
I am very active in the classroom and I believe in making learning fun and enjoyable. There are so many ways to help children learn, yet many of them are not used for one reason or another. When the conventional has not worked!!!

I have worked in schools in Kentucky and Ohio. I have been a tutor, intervention aide, long term substitute teacher, and regular classroom teacher. I communicate freely with my students, and am always ranked among the most well-liked and effective instructors by my students. My best skill is helping students find what is in it for them to learn and use the material. I currently teach (adjunct) at a career College where I teach English, history, strategies for success, and communications classes.
Student-centered, Co-intentional. I believe that the key to learning is the motivation to want to learn. Once that has been accomplished, just stand back and guide the student to what they want next.

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from Morehead State University with a BS in Chemistry and a Geology minor in 1996. I used this degree to obtain work in my field, and outside of my field for the past 14 years. I have strong, hands-on experience with Chemistry principles and have experienced them on a daily basis for over 5 years. I also have experience working in a customer support role and have been responsible for helping people of all ages and backgrounds solve problems in a quick, and effective manor. As the daughter of an illerate parent, I have learned the value of being able to read and that of an education. My education is the second most important thing to me.
