A Little Bit About Me...

During my undergraduate career at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, I obtained a wealth of knowledge in the fields of math and science. I did this by striving for excellence in the classroom and participating in cutting edge research with professors in the Entomology and Organic Chemistry departments. My extensive knowledge of the subjects I’ve studied has allowed me to assist my friends in understanding complex and difficult problems. This past year I privately tutored classmates in both Statistics and Organic Chemistry.
I believe the best way for someone to learn something is through application and repetition. As both a tutor and youth lacrosse coach I have had success by teaching my students how to approach problems rather than simply giving them answers. I subscribe to the principle: tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, tell them what you have told them. To avoid mind-numbing repetition, I present the material with a combination of text and pictures, then review the material with ungraded short answer exercises ("active learning – I do and I understand"). Then we summarize. I also connect what the student is learning with previous course content to promote learning by association. I use a variety of exercises to reinforce content, including case studies, diagram creation and annotation, group discussion (where a group is available).
