I have had the great pleasure of teaching students from diverse backgrounds and demographics - from senior citizens to very young home-schoolers; wealthy retirees preparing for vacation to college students living on a shoe-string budget; college graduates wanting to improve their language skills to academically challenged youth needing help to pass a class. Each challenge brings me the joy of opening up a new world of experiences - much like teaching a child to read. Once the light is turned on, the learning spreads like wildfire. I received my BS degree in 2007 in pre-medicine. I majored in pre-professional zoology and I have a minor in biochemistry. I also worked at the Talent Development Center as a tutor for biology, botany, chemistry and biochemistry. I have a strong background in all science courses and maintained a 3.87 GPA throughout college. I have been involved in a lot of activities and feel the best way to teach is to relate to the student. As a tutor, I have worked with many different types of students and I found a way to relate the information to something they were interested in. I believe all students are capable of learning the material; it just has to be presented in a way they understand.

I started teaching Music in 1984. I taught part-time, temporary while pursuing education goals and working as a professional musician. In 1998 I became an adult educator, and in the following nine years I taught GED, Workforce, Computer and ESL. I learned to speak Spanish from some of my ESL students. Today I run a new program called Bachillerato de las Americas en Arkansas, comprised of curricula obtained from Kingston, Jamaica and Heredia, Costa Rica. I enjoy teaching all age levels. I consider myself a facilitator, not an authoritarian. I ascribe to the principles set forth by Malcolm Knowels and Benjamin Bloom. I rely on the strength and motivation of the student. I hesitate to call myself "teacher." Depending on the class, I use a variety of styles. An educator can make a difference in students' lives. I have seen this through my 28 years of teaching. I try to provide mentoring while teaching to help students who are looking for a reason to succeed. I have 26 years experience teaching Spanish and Latin at all levels (graduate and udnergraduate) at Austin Peay State University. Included are three years of part-time teaching Latin and Spanish at the Clarksville Academy, Clarksville, TN. 2 years experience teaching Spanish and Linguistics at Arkansas Tech University.
