In many ways, learning can be customized to fit the individual interests of students, and I challenge myself to make each session one filled with new ideas and topics. I believe that the combination of hobbies and personal interests, along with the subject matter is the key to learning. I was born to teach. From 10 years old I would teach my friends during summer vacations or whenever I could get them to play my favorite game, school, (Kids don't play school anymore). I enjoy helping students make the connections. I use a teaching approach that is hands on and generally seeks to find atudents learning style. I know that all children can learn, it is sometimes a matter of how they learn that becomes a barrier. I think educators must take into account the different ways in which students learn. For instance, I've noticed that math students may have difficulty adding and subtracting fractions, but have no trouble whatsoever when I ask about dimes and quarters. If an instructor can build a bridge between new material and material the student has already mastered, the student's retention can significantly improve. By getting to know the interests and knowledge of each, I hope to discover bridges that will make learning an exciting and enjoyable process.
