Ask the student what they feel they need to work on. Provide lot's of examples. Give them opportunities to try to do the work themselves. Show them what they did right and what they did wrong. Explain why it is wrong. Try again.
I have two years of experience teaching undergraduate French classes at Michigan State University where I also tutored several students including some with learning disabilities. I also tutored for a semester while I was at Grand Valley. I spent 3 summers teaching Arabic to children in Grand Rapids as well. So I have experience working with all ages.

I love the give and take of interaction with students. My approach is learner-centered, which means that I see each student as an individual and strive to tailor our instructional exchange to meet the needs of each person. I believe that teaching is dialogic; it is through dialogue that instructors and students together engage in the exploration process that leads to learning. I do not ascribe to the "open head, pour in facts" approach to teaching. As a Magna Cum Laude Graduate of Grand Valley State University with a degree in English/Language Arts and a teaching certificate in Elementary Education, I was hoping to help students succeed.
