Hey there. I am a medical school drop out. I have my bachelors in biology, with minors in botany, chemistry and economics. I wandered through many subjects and interest in school. I have tutored fellow students in my undergrad and in med school. I have a good understanding of algebra, economics, chemistry, physiology and writing papers. I first started to study music when I was 11 years old. I grew a love for the clarinet and played for many years in middle school and high school. In college, I majored in clarinet and also studied all wind/percussion instruments as well as piano. I obtained my BA instrumental teaching degree (K-12) through Western Carolina University in June of 2003. Through the years, I have had the privilage and pleasure of teaching band in a classroom setting, marching band, and private lessons. The reason I became a teacher was to transfer my love of music to my students and also to see the joy of their successes. There is nothing like seeing the smile of success on a students face. I care greatly for all students that I have taught and will teach.

My teaching style is basically Socratic, using questions/responses in order to explore and to understand the subject at hand. Active involvement by the student is important, asking "leading" questions to probe why and how certain things are the way they are. Additionally, my teaching style in writing is to start with the broad picture, then move to the details, subsequently returning to the broad picture. The final step is to be able clearly both to introduce and also to summarize the nature of subject matter. My belief is that reading with comprehension and writing is an "art" that can be rehearsed and practiced with ever greater skill. I am very easy to communicate with and I am very outgoing. I firmly believe that anyone can make music if they understand that it requires some practice and some desire to learn. I love seeing a child's face light up when they learn how to play a piece of music or make a sound on an instrument; it is a phenomenal feeling. I felt that I was cheated out of my music education so I try to make it my goal to make sure I do not do the same to other young people. Upon earning my International Baccalaureate diploma in high school, I immediately decided teaching music was what I wanted to do. I attended the University of South Carolina and performed in many professional music ensembles including: USC Orchestra, USC Wind Ensemble, USC Symphonic Band, USC Percussion Ensemble, Palmetto Pans and I also performed and a recorded a full length album with a band that was voted best in Columbia, SC.
