A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style consists of finding that unique style that will suit each individual student. Growing up, I noticed that it was very hard for certain students to grasp certain concepts because they were not engaged in the teaching method. It is no secret that everyone learns a certain way, and no two ways are ever the same. I believe that my patience, my calm demeanor, and habit of wanting to make learning something fun rather than a job has certainly helped me in my education. I also am a big proponent of having children set goals for themselves. Setting goals makes you work harder without feeling the pressure, and I've learned that once children reach that goal they will just want to go higher.

I belong to Mensa and the NCTM, and have excellent English and decent Spanish speaking and writing skills. I have taught and tutored in mathematics and computer science for quite awhile, and I earned a 95% on my PSAT and a 32 on my ACT.
Generally, I'm a constructivist, and I believe the best method of tutoring is providing a completely individuated scaffold for any student. While I was raised in old-school education, I believe that some of the newer techniques of education through hands-on, the use of digital technology, and through writing across the curriculum are effective for many students.

Based on my past teaching experiences, I have learned that in order to motivate students to learn, it’s imperative to make connections between the curriculum and their prior experiences and interests. I believe that it is unrealistic to expect students to learn at the same rate and have identical learning styles, so teachers must differentiate their instruction to account for all types of learning abilities, levels, interests, and talents. For instance, teachers should be able and willing to plan lessons and/or assessments that allow students to utilize their own individual and unique intelligences, such as perhaps music or art.
