I starting tutoring in high school. I tutored in students in math. In college, I continued to tutor through an organization. I tutored groups of students at their homes. I teach in patterns and find methods to make things easier for the student to learn. This is how I learn everything. I will explain what I am tutoring until the student totally understands. I have a lot of patience and a lot of compassion for helping students learn what they do not understand, and I am good at it. I am very good at tutoring in English, English as a Second Language, grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, spelling, basic math, especially percentages and fractions, I can tutor very basic algebra, Business English, Spanish, Machine Calculations, Keyboarding I and II, which is Beginning and Intermediate Typing, how to use the computer (search the Internet, use the mouse, keyboard, Microsoft Word, and things of that nature. I have always loved to teach children because it excites me to see them really grasp a concept, and overcome a hurdle they thought was beyond their reach. Each child has so much potential-far greater than any of us give them credit for when we first meet them! In 2009, I was a professional tutor(as opposed to a peer-tutor) for the Biology Department of Ulster County Community College, NY, for students struggling with: Bio 100 for non-science majors, Bio 101—an intro course for those planning to continue but lacking a strong background, Bio 105—General Bio required by all biology-related programs, and Bio 109—Human Bio for non-science majors. I noted that if students needed Biology assistance, they often needed Chemistry assistance also, so the basics of that had to be included in order for topics like macromolecules and cellular respiration to make any true sense at all. I think that it is important to make sure that the student understands the concepts being learned in each subject rather than learning how to do one particular problem. Too often students forget the basics that they learned before because they thought that they were finished only to find that it comes up again in a more advanced subject. My goal is to get students to understand and apply the concepts to different situations other than the ones that are directly in front of them at the moment. I tend to push students to work hard and challenge them to think about the process instead of just giving answers. During High School I taught at a science camp for 3 years.
