A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that being an effective tutor involves tailoring my style to the way the student learns. That is why I pay close attention to what seems effective for each student. I begin by allowing them to ask questions, then answer the questions as directly as possible, and from there I adapt to what seems to work for each student.
I have a degree in chemistry that included many hours of work in a lab setting, and I also worked for 10 years as a chemist in various types of labs. As a Regent's Scholar at UC Davis, I sought to develop skills in both the sciences and the liberal arts. As such, I earned two bachelors degrees, a BS in Civil/Environmental Engineering with an emphasis in Environmental Engineering, and a BA in Japanese. I have an extensive background in math and science, particularly in physics and chemistry, due to the former. I also have a plethora of experience in writing persuasive essays, technical papers, and research papers. My two years of tutoring experience ranges from basic mathematics for elementary school students to advanced engineering principles for college students.

As a tutor I will help students determine their learning style(s) and focus my efforts through this style(s). A second component of successful learning is subject relevance.
