I like to discover what my students already know about the topic and to expose any misconceptions. Brainstorming activities work well for me. I like to help define the topic in common terms, not the classic dictionary method. I use presentation, discussion, videos and hands on activities. Most of what I do is inquiry based.
I have a passion for teaching but waited until I gained some "real world" experience. I found that this has helped me relate to my students since I am able to make meaningful connections to their learning.

A Little Bit About Me...

I started out working as a Head Start teacher's assistant and the following year I was promoted to Head Start teacher and manager. I have also worked as a 1:1 instructional assistant with a high needs student. Currently I worked in a behavior school as an instructional assistant, and I have stepped in to plan curriculum and teach all the classes because the teacher has been on paid leave this year. I also have been commuting to college in Castleton State College from Springfield after work to complete my degree in education. As a graduate of The Kings College the professors taught me the value of working with children on an individual basis. They taught me that there are many different learning styles a student may have. This is what got me interested in the Title 1 Program. As a tutor in this program my focus was Reading and Math at the elementary level. A Little Bit About Me...

No two children are the same, and we know that this is correct, so therefore it applies to their learning ability as well. Some children need visual simulation to really ingrain the principle that is trying to be understood. While other's learn by complete repetition. My teaching style is all relative to the child and the subject area being covered.
As an average person, I enjoy teaching children the values and importance of their education while befriending them and understanding where they are in relation to their social-emotional, physical, and educational development.
