I enjoy working with students and showing them the joy of learning. I believe that children learn most in small groups and one on one environments. I believe that children learn best when they feel respected. I think that everyone has skills and talents to offer. I try to help my students find their own gifts and work to allow them to succeed in the classroom and beyond.
I hold a bachelor's degree in Political Science, which focused on writing and research. I earned an alternative teaching certification, which allowed me to work as an inclusion teacher at the middle school level, which allowed me to spend a great deal of time working with small groups and in one on one settings. I have taught life sciences, Earth sciences, world geography, and United States history. I also have a year's experience of tutoring beginning reading.

I have worked for an after school program for the past five years. In this position I was able to tutor students and help them with their homework. The experience I have is with students in grades kindergarten through 4th grade. I did my student teaching in a preschool and a 2nd grade classroom. In the after school program and the student teaching experience I helped students with all school subjects including english, math, science, social studies and reading.
I pride myself on helping students have fun while learning. I believe that if a student is not enjoying themselves they will not learn. As a teacher I use a hands-on approach to give the students a realistic approach to learning. All students can learn and as a teacher I feel it is my job to bring the best out of any child. As a graduate from Tennessee Tech University, I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Elementary Education. My field experience during college (practicum assignments and student teaching) allowed me to work with a broad range of children – from kindergarten to fifth grade. During my time as a student teacher in a small private school setting, I also worked one-on-one with students who needed additional assistance in math. It is very important to assess what the student already knows and the level of understanding they hold at the beginning. It is also important to make sure that what they know is correct and that they are not confused or misunderstanding the material. After which, getting to know the individual style of learning for each student will insure that time is used efficiently and that the student is understanding and retaining the material being taught. Working one-on-one is the best teaching method; however, when that is not possible, working in small groups is also very effective.
