A Little Bit About Me...

As a teacher for six years and a physical therapy aide for one, I believe I have very good teaching skills. Not only did I have to teach students music and math, subjects I know students are uncomfortable with, I had to teach and motivate patients to do exercises while they were in pain. I have had many years of experience tutoring and teaching students in Kindergarten through 12th grade computers, math, English and reading. I am a creative, patient teacher. I know that everyone learns differently, so I try to come up with many different ways to explain a concept. I love to see the sudden understanding in a student's eyes when they finally understand a difficult concept. This is what makes teaching an addictive and highly fulfilling activity for me.
During my undergraduate years, I often found myself tutoring fellow students. Eventually I got a job working for the math and science tutoring center on campus. My style of teaching is to first get the student to understand the basics that are needed as a foundation. For example, my friend was having trouble completing accounting homework and I soon realized that it was because he had not memorized the basic equations; i.e., "assets - liabilities = owner's equity," and "beginning inventory + purchases - ending inventory = cost of goods sold." Just about impossible to advance without the basics.
