Upon graduation from college, I taught 7th grade English for two years, then Gifted & Talented grades 4-6. I left the field of teaching for marriage and babies. My husband was in the military, so we moved quite often. I homeschooled our two children for most of their elementary years. After that I taught 7th grade Algebra at a private school. I have tutored adults and children off and on over the years in various subjects, from reading to anatomy and math. I believe the most important skill we can impart to children is a love for learning, and a curiosity about life. That, with a firm foundation in reading and math, will take them anywhere they want to go. I do utilize more of a socratic rather than a didactic approach, and endeavor to involve the learner in discovery as much as possible. I believe that everyone can learn if given the proper encouragement.

I use verbal and visual techniques for teaching and prefer to add an element of kinetic learning for tutoring. I explain the material in the book, preferably after the students have read the chapter. I also provide time for questions and answers, as well as group discussions and projects. I rely on exams only to show me if the students are understanding the material. If not I offer to tutor them or suggest they find a tutor. I tutored math and science for Carl Albert State College from Sept. 1994 to May 1995. After obtaining a list of objectives, I like to offer a pop quiz to set a baseline. Thereafter, topics are divided in number of days available for preparation. Most important topics and topics not well understood get time and individualized priority. Offer a challenge test at the end. Harder than the test students will face but no so hard as to lower self steem. The knowledge gained from completing an accounting degree from an accredited accounting program has possessed me with real world function and theoretical application of multiple accounting systems. My education was not limited to material found on a CPA Exam, but was broad in scope covering new fields in forensic's accounting, and old staples of accounting for natural resources such as petroleum. I am proficient in many accounting fields such as Financial (FASB), Cost, Auditing, Information Systems, Encumbrance, Not for profit, and Advanced mergers and consolidations. When teaching accounting practice or theory there is no substitute for working problems. Repetition of working problems helps all students gain insight of accounting rules and principles.
