All learning starts with a question, both by teacher and student alike. My role is both as teacher (coach and guide) and student (questioner). I should employ a variety of questioning techniques to better understand strengths and weaknesses, then prescribe remedies tailored for individual strengths and weaknesses, facilitating the learning process and desired outcome. Most people know intuitively how they learn, as well as which modalities work best for them. My teaching style has foundations in the Socratic seminar, where class discussions lead students to form their own understanding of the materials/subjects at hand. As students only retain 5% of what is spoken in lectures, I encourage students to follow a model of inquiry and responsibility for their own work. I support studying and reading at home in order to excel on tests, and offer individual assistance to each student. I also insist that parents take a strong leadership role in the education of their children, so that they may develop a yearning for information and knowledge. Using Power Point presentations I taught courses in my field to over 100 students in classes as small as ten to as large as fifty. I also tutored children for two years in the Leon County literacy Volunteer program and one year in the ESOL program. I enjoy teaching and helping young people.
