My comments on tutoring Poetry : Poetry is all part of learning the ground rules of Literature. Its is always included in my studies, such as Edgar Allen Poe and Annabelle Lee and other classic stories.

As a parent, I was able to finish my degree in 2003 and return back to college as an adult student. Being a parent as well as a teacher for five years, I saw that the experience of parenting firsthand before actually teaching in the classroom was very beneficial. I love the youth and the teens, and was hired as a Language Arts teacher for a junior high private school for the last five years. I taught English, writing skills, religion, and Literature. Because I was recently a graduate in 2003, I knew that the students needed to learn writing skills and therefore prepared them for for high school writing. I believe in teaching the whole student. I wanted to make a difference in a teens life. I have learned so much from teaching.

I am a second year UW Madison student pursuing a math degree. I have completed Calculus 1, Calculus 222, Calculus 234, Calculus 3 based engineering statistics, and Actuarial Science (a class designed to prepare actuarial students for the P exam). Next semester I will take Linear Algebra and the Basic Concepts of Math. I enjoy working with young people very much, and I have an intense passion for math, so I have chosen to pursue a career in Math education. During my freshman year at UW Madison, I volunteered weekly at Sennett Middle School to tutor students in math and science. I achieved an English degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where my senior thesis was selected as a finalist for the UW Creative Writing prize. I am passionate about the English language, but I think that writing is becoming a lost art. Quality writers are quality communicators. As writing in general falls into disrepair, those who can write clearly and read critically will have an edge in every institution they enter--from the University, all the way to the workplace.
I enjoy hands-on teaching and one-on-one interaction with students. Good writing can simplify the thought process, and leads to students becoming better thinkers and communicators. I am easy-going and patient, but I take language and writing very seriously. A Little Bit About Me...

I go through all the concepts with the individual pertaining to what portion of statistics they are studying at that time. I will then walk them through a couple of examples demonstrating how to properly obtain the correct answer. I will follow that up by asking them to do a problem without any direct instruction from me. I will watch them work on the problem to assure they are working on it properly. If any mistakes are made I will politely point them out as the individual is working. Finally, I will ask them to work on problems completely on their own and I will check their answers when they are done. I feel the only way to learn statistics, or any math for that matter, is through repetition and working on a lot of problems.
