I have experience teaching many types of students. I worked one-on-one, daily, with an autistic student during my last position, so I understand that not every student learns in the same way. I think it works well to give shorter lessons to a small group, and then work individually with the students. I like to encourage them to help one another if they feel confident in the subject. I pay great attention to verifying that each student is following the lesson. My main teaching style is "I do, you do," meaning I show them how to do a problem, or spell a word, and then they show me how. I have had an extensive career in business. I have had a number of accounting/finance positions in the business world. My most successful position was with a chain of 30 Hallmark stores. I started as the accountant and eventually became the President of the company. I have had other positions as Controller and Accountants of other businesses. I would be able to instruct children with the basics and also explain how these basic concepts are used and why they are important in a real environment. I am very patient as long as the student is trying to learn and cares about the work. Mental support of students is half the battle. I am a retired chemist with 42 years of experience in industry. I hold a BS degree with a Chemistry major, and completed some graduate courses in Chemistry. During my career, I supervised laboratory technicians and taught them laboratory procedures and equipment operation. The most challenging aspect of teaching comes from the many different styles in which students acquire information. While some students benefit more from a hands-on approach, others are better served by visualizations/illustrations, while still others learn best by repetition of material. I have always approached students with an open mind, allowing them to help me understand what it is they need to learn materials in an efficient manner.
