I like to be interactive- when I'm teaching I prefer to work through a problem with a student together the first time, letting the student more or less watch me. The second time through, we approach the problem with a little more weight placed on the student. The third time I ask the student to attempt the problem on his/her own, and I'm available for questions.
I have tutored classmates and friends throughout college and after in science and math disciplines. My younger sister struggled in school and I assisted her with all disciplines from grades K-12. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring since high school. When I was in high school, I tutored my brother in elementary level math. When I was in college, I tutored students in chemistry and math. I have a bachelor's degree in chemistry and have also had numerous math courses. I can tutor in any math subject up to calculus 2 and up to any undergraduate chemistry course.
I find that the best way to tutor my students is to find out what they are struggling with the most in a subject and then helping them with the basics in that subject. I work with the student on the basics and then build up to more difficult material. I am patient with students of all ages. I believe that knowing the basics of a subject is always important. Initially, I found that students would have the "oh my god" look on their face when trying to solve a problem. Many of these students benefitted greatly from my ability to break a complex problem into manageable steps they could follow. In the past, I would ask each student what gave them the most problem about algebra. Based upon their responses, we worked together with a "team approach" to solve a problem. I have a great amount of patience to work with students.
As a graduate of both Purdue University and the University of Kansas, I place a premium of education in my own life.
