My comments on tutoring Testing Skills : I have a philosophy that preparation is the foundation to anything, and that proper preparation will help anyone conquer any exam.

I like to use the Socratic method, mainly by asking questions and challenging assumptions. In addition, I like to engage those I teach, challenging them to think about what they previously have not considered. I believe in building on successes, and offering constructive criticism, where appropriate.
I have mentored various people since 2000, in all types of subjects, including math, science, social sciences, English, writing, literature, and other related subjects. My academic record is very strong, and I believe empowering those I work with every single time. The only pre-requisites are that you have to be willing to learn, and learn how to learn.

I very much enjoy training and teaching because I understand how valuable information can be. I have 5 children of my own and get great joy helping them learn and understand things and how they can be applied to everyday practical applications in life. I try to initially gather a persons level of understanding so that I may teach at the level that is easily understood and fits with the knowledge level of the group or individual.
I have worked in management, human resources, and currently I am employed in the technology sector. I utilize math and statistical analysis on a daily basis. I have extensive grammatical skills due to report preperation, presntations, and training. I have presented presentations and training for groups up to 1500 persons and I am very well spoken and articulate. My specialty is reading, writing and research. I have a bachelor's degree from the University of Texas, where I studied government, law and economics. I believe most students can learn or solve any problem by talking it through, which is often easier and more effective than simply trying to think it through silently. I have helped students with research and writing on and off for 15 years and have the most experience in English, History, Economics, Psychology, Social Studies, Geography and paper writing (or research) of most any subject at any level.
The teaching style that brings the best success I've found is centered on two points. First of all, it is based on listening, which means getting the student to talk. Eventually, with guidance, I aim to get them the ability to talk through and solve any problem. The second major technique I like to use is analogies. Even co ... read more

Working with different age groups, have shown me that every child is their own individual. I get to know the children I work with to understand the best approach to take with them. I can work in small groups, large groups, or individual. Some children are shy and may work better alone. It takes patience to teach and I am blessed to have that gift.
I was determined to be the first to attend and graduate from college out of a big family. I have learned different aspects of Psychology to apply to everyday life. In the last 10 years, I have been working with troubled teens to help them get their lives back on track. I have also done some tutoring in between.

We are all individuals and as such will have our own, unique styles of learning. My job as a tutor/mentor/teacher is to uncover that and foster the growth of such. I am skilled at promoting creativity, creating a fun learning environment, setting achievable goals, and developing a sense of accomplishment in a student. I balance patience with clear expectations; I view a tutoring relationship as a partnership. After assessing the needs and goals of the student, we will work together to form a plan to achieve short-term and long-term goals.

Assuming that most students would rather be anywhere than an English class, I listen to their interests of the moment and then relate them to my goals. I explore their previous knowledge and build on that, avoiding either boring them or talking over their heads. I listen, we laugh, and then I reel them in, constantly showing them how my goals are relevant to their ultimate desires. Fast, if not immediate, feedback is essential to keeping students motivated, as is elaborate explanation of why they scored what they score. Therefore, students see themselves as in control of their own learning, with a benevolent and knowledgeable mentor easing them along.

A Little Bit About Me...

I received my BS in Accounting 1988. While getting my degree I was involved in the on campus tutoring program. I have tutored students in, accounting mathematics, philosophy, marketing, business law, finance, and religion. Since graduating from college I have had several training opportunities in various jobs. These jobs have given me a wide range of experience in training (tutoring) a wide range of people with various levels of education, and their ability to grasp the information required for the job. I have passion for teaching others what I have learned. My work experience and education have given me a great deal of knowledge and I want to pass that along to others that may benefit from it.

Through experience and research, I have developed a tutoring style that has helped countless students achieve unmeasured success. My students usually respond very well to my standard explanation of the procedure for solving algebra equations, as well as other math concepts, such as logarithms, trigonometry, and derivatives. On occasions when my students do not quite understand my standard explanations, I will explain the concept in a different way until the student understands. I am also very good as devising mnemonic devices to remember various formulas and terms in classes such as Biology and Anatomy.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love teaching both school-age students and adults. I believe the three most important qualities a teacher can bring to a student are expert skills in the areas being taught, patience, and optimism. I truly believe all students can learn, and I provide a safe atmosphere that encourages risk-taking (the willingess to make mistakes for the benefit of learning), exploration and expansion of background knowledge, and the progressive acquisition of new material. With guidance, a student can construct knowledge and own it. This is far more important and complex than just imparting information. A good teacher can make all the difference in the success of a student.

I have always felt compelled to help others achieve their dreams. I graduated with a bachelor's in psychology and began working at a residential alcohol and drug treatment facility for adolescents. There I assisted the education personnel in tutoring our clients. I helped our kids with math, science, and English, at all levels of education. My work experience in this position and in the positions that I was promoted to enhanced my writing skills, interpersonal relationships, and attention to detail.
My teaching style is specific to the individual child and their needs. When I worked at the residential center, I had to teach alcohol and drug awareness classes. During that time is when I learned that encouragement, patience, and a variety of methods are essential to a child's academic success. A child looks to the teacher for the effective skills and tools to accomplish their ... read more

I believe learning is about confidence. I have seen numerous students doing poorly in courses because they were convinced that they were not capable of learning the subject matter. Small successes help to build confidence in order to move on to the subsequent challenges. I believe in starting with the basics, and making sure that the students truly grasps the subject matter before moving to more difficult concepts. Often, it takes several different approaches before a student is able to understand the concept. I believe that with patience, I can find the right approach and help most students perform at a higher level.

A Little Bit About Me...

I recognize that each child is unique and has the potential to succeed, and therefore it is important that they are provided with positive, productive guidance to enhance their learning experience. I understand that all individuals learn in different ways, and that embracing diversity is a key to successful teaching.
I recently graduated from the University of Tennessee with a BA in psychology and a minor in child development. In my studies I have gained extensive knowledge on the growth and development of children and young adults. I have also learned various teaching and learning styles, problem solving techniques, and communication skills in which to facilitate the educational needs of children both individually and in small groups.
