A Little Bit About Me...

I have always enjoyed mentoring children. I started coaching youth soccer when I was 17. While at Emory I coached a U-13 club soccer team and I was asked by parents to tutor some of the players off the field. While I worked in finance I volunteered in the International Telementor Program, which allowed me to provide online tutoring to children from all over the country. I helped 8 – 15 year olds with book reports, career presentations, writing assignments, amongst others, and provided general life guidance when needed. As a coach and mentor, I understand each child is unique and learns in his/her own way. A Little Bit About Me...

I find an interactive, Socratic teaching style in which I encourage the student to discover the answers on their own to understand why something works the way it does is a very effective approach for me rather than just lecturing, particularly for younger learners. I find it equally important for students to understand the why of what they are learning as well as the how and the what. I believe that students' multiple intelligences should be harnessed and that if students don't understand information presented initially, it is up to the teacher to find different ways of presenting the information so that the student can make it his or her own.
