Reasonable Rates for a Passionate, Experienced Teacher

I have been teaching Information Technology at both the elementary and middle-school level in private schools in Northern Virginia for most of the last ten years. In addition, I have tutored at high-school level in Chemistry and History. With both a Bachelor's Degree in History, and a Maser's degree in Network Information Systems, I am qualified to tutor in both the Social as well as the Computer Sciences, with an additional capability in Chemistry and Math at the advanced high school level.

As a recent graduate from Radford University, I am anxious to begin teaching. I have spent the last year in a middle school classroom observing and teaching. The first semester I was in the school part time while taking classes at Radford. During this semester I did a lot of observing and moderate amounts of teaching. I am planning to enter medical school in the Fall of 2012 and as such have developed a strong foundation in the sciences throughout my undergraduate education. I am a special education teacher and have worked with a wide range of students with various abilities as well as disabilities: mental retardation, learning disabilities, emotional disorders, and autism. I remediate students with and without disabilities who have done poorly on SOL tests as well as struggling readers. A Little Bit About Me...

I taught 7th grade Language Arts for six years when I lived in Florida. I collaborated on the team that created the Orange County curriculum for teaching writing to the middle grades. This curriculum is still in use today. I worked for the Princeton Review as a tutor doing SAT preparation both privately and in a classroom setting. This was in preparation for both the verbal and math skills sections.
I believe that students of all ages respond to humor, honesty, and respect. Subjects in which that students have difficulty can be made accessible to them by demonstrating to them the humor in learning something hard and the fun of conquering the subject.
