I was a teaching assistant throughout high school. I graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into Kappa Delta Pi. I was selected to teach intensive intervention and pursued my Master’s degree with a concentration in remedial reading. Accomplished English/ESOL/Russian Tutor

I tutored kids who were lagging behind the rest of the class at school as well as advanced language learners and helped them get ready for regional language contests. One of my achievements I believe is my excellent work with high school seniors to prepare for centralized testing. But the experience I value most is when my students who were performing about average gradually integrated into the rest of the class. Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I couldn't let this continue, but I saw how emotional the class was about the show. I encouraged them to write their own talk show and told them we would perform it the next day. I find that connecting student's interest with the subject matter to be learned is the best way to teach.
After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. Writing is one of my top subjects! I developed a writing program for elementary age students in NY. It was used to help students prepare for the state-wide writing test. It incorporated reading and writing as well as math and writing. It also included a section on incorporating listening and writing.

I have over 25 years teaching in an elementary school. I have worked extensively with children who fall below grade level or need extra help. I use games and manipulative when working with students. I encourage them to do their best and reward them for a job well done. I also involve the parent, leting them know each time what was done and where we are headed.

Learning is fun!
