As the daughter of two educators, I spent my childhood immersed in educational values. My passion for education lead me to attend Western Washington University where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and History. I tutored Geometry and worked in several classrooms at both the high school and middle school level throughout my time at Western. After graduation, I taught seventh grade Medieval World History at Alderwood Middle School in the Edmonds School District. I tutored four different children (1st-5th grade) over the course of four years for the Teton Literacy Program, a non-profit group located in Jackson, Wyoming. I met with each child after school at the facility or the local public library for hour-long sessions, working on grammar, pronunciation, and writing, focusing on each students' strengths and weaknesses and helping them catch up to their appropriate grade level as well as building their confidence. In addition, I worked on the I-CAN book project, through the Literacy Program, coaching a second grade class with the creation and assimilation of a story book.
