I have overall 10 years of teaching experience. I came to United States to do my Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry. As a graduate student, I worked as a TA for the Department of Chemistry. I was trained on an intense 4 week program focused on undergraduate teaching methods offered by the Teaching College of U of Nebraska. I taught various undergraduate courses (both laboratory and recitation) at the Department of Chemistry, UNL. I have been living in Seattle for the past four years, and I have tutored students from high school, U Prep, and College in Science and Math. I was a senior scientist - engineer for 37 years. I retired to care for my comatose wife at home, and she died a few months later. This situation has left me open to new directions. I am a recent graduate of the University of Washington with a BS in Chemistry. I also have a strong background in math and biology. Aside from my educational background, I have experience as an educator: from June 2007 to February 2008 I worked for a private language school in Prague, Czech Republic as an English language teacher.
I try to avoid giving students an answer immediately, but rather try to pry the answer out of them with questions so that they can figure out the answer themselves. I see teaching as helping/forcing the student to think things out and make discoveries for themselves, not just being spoon-fed information.
