My comments on tutoring Computer Programming : Java, Python, Javascript, C, Shell

By knowing your background and goals, generally teach in three styles: 1. If you are a quick learner and have a good memory, I'll show you a lot of examples and explanations, try to give you the knowledge scope first and tackle the issues one by one deeper later (Top to Bottom) 2. If you are a free thinker and always have questions, I'll try to let you drive and be ready to Q&A anytime, then help you connect the dot and let you find the big picure (Bottom to Top) 3. If you just want to achieve utilitarianism, we will pick the most "profitable" area and dive deep (Cherry Pick)

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from the University of Washington in 2008 with a dual degree in Accounting and Information Systems. In 2009, I sat for and passed all four section of the CPA examination. As a Magna Cum Laude graduate, I was extremely driven to excel and reach my potential. The coursework that I took throughout college provided me with an extensive knowledge base of business, math concepts, and writing. Throughout college, I was involved in the Beta Alpha Psi tutoring program for accounting students. In addition, I held a variety of private tutoring sessions in the areas of intermediate business math and business writing.
I have always enjoyed teaching children of all ages. I've had experience as a teaching assistant that has well prepared me as a tutor. I am very laid back and patient while finding a positive way to encourage students to meet their potential. I am a firm believer ... read more

More About This Tutor...

Having the opportunity to work with and help all sorts of students has allowed me to better define and shape the methods that I use to teach and assist students. I would describe my teaching style as very dynamic. I try my best to explore what methods of thinking and presentation work best for each individual student. I typically try to present topics from multiple perspectives (eg: visually vs. abstractly). I also emphasize peeling back the layers of knowledge to a level the student finds intuitive and then rebuilding on that foundation.
I am a recent graduate of the University of Washington. My studies focused on physics, pure/abstract mathematics, applied mathematics, computer science, as well as some work in statistics and engineering disciplines. A Little Bit About Me...

In the past I have worked with students both one and one and within a group setting, and feel comfortable adapting to any particular group or individual's needs. I believe effective teachers must compose a delicate balance of meticulous discipline and natural concern. The best teachers and professors of my academic career were not only intelligent, but carried a contagious passion for what they studied. I would like to think my teaching style is the same.
In college I volunteer tutored at the Crawford Country READ center to a pupil struggling with reading comprehension, writing and mathematics. In addition to this, during my senior year at Allegheny College I was a teaching assistant for a Research Design and Statistics I and II course. Furthermore, I am currently living in Pittsburgh as a private tutor. As a recent college graduate I can understand the difficulties some students m ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that every student can learn, given the right approach. Sometimes the "right approach" requires explaining the concept in several different ways, or includes a more interactive process with experimentation or discussion. I try to work with each student to find the correct approach. In addition, I believe that one of the most important parts of tutoring is giving the student confidence in their own abilities, and I try to provide as much encouragement as possible.

I present the information or concepts at hand in several different ways. I draw on the learners personal experiences to make the information or concepts relevant to them. I help the learner tie the information or concepts to their own knowledge base thus establishing ownership.

More About This Tutor...

I believe that whenever I'm working with a student they have the capacity to learn and internalize the material. I believe that the student can learn the material. My method of mathematical and scientific instruction is based off the Polya style of teaching where the instructor guides their students by questions and reviewing the known information. Thus the student's questions drive the student towards the answer desired. I find great personal reward when working with students. After explaining information and working on helping a student understand the material there's sometimes that moment when you can watch the student go from not knowing what's going on to sudden understanding. Moments like that make my day.
