I take a servant leadership, customer-oriented approach to my responsibilities. I routinely try to answer the following question: What can I do to help students achieve their goals? For research papers, I encouraged students to pursue their own interests, such as a subject related to their major, in order to give them a better opportunity to enjoy the research process as opposed to merely fulfilling an exercise requirement. From January 2006 through August 2008, I worked part-time as a freshman composition instructor, writing lab tutor, and teaching assistant for the English department at UNT. I worked in after school progrmas all through college and generally enjoy helping children study. I am very engaging, patient and relate well to any age child or young adult. I am not a proto-typical, traditional "tutor" in that I never studied education in a pedagogical sense, but I am highly educated and always made high grades in every level of school. I graduated with honors with degrees in history and economics from the University of Texas at Austin. I am an obsessive student of history, specializing in the history of the British Empire in the 19th century, with a 70 page thesis on the subject that I am in the process of getting published. As of June 2013 I will have just returned from a full year in Egypt studying Arabic after four years of studying Arabic in Austin, including a summer in Morocco, as part of a Defense Department program for critical language study. I will have achieved advanced proficiency by U.S. government standards, and will be able to teach both Modern Standard Arabic and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic. My teaching style is one in which I strive to engage students in the subject by both instructing and challenging them to think on their own. I also strive to accomplish this goal in such a manner that the student experiences the fun that is a part of learning, but one that also emphasizes the importance of the learning process as well.
