A Little Bit About Me...

With a degree in Marketing and a year of school for mechanical engineering I have completed a number of calculus classes throughout the years. I supported myself throughout college and beyond in the Food and Beverage Service Industry and took a job in the Insurance Industry after graduating. I am now in the process of starting my own company and am looking for extra work as well. I really enjoy teaching and have aided in teaching math to young family members and to children of my friends.
Being someone who likes to see the "big picture" of concepts and ideas, I struggled through math as a child, believing that I didn't understand it. I graduated from Worcester Polytechnic Institute,a college that prides itself in a rigorous curriculum with a strong emphasis on projects that its students prepare for a real world experience. WPI’s fast paced 7 week terms helped me learn time management skills, self teaching, and working in groups. I have earned a BS in chemistry with a focus on organic synthesis, as well as a concentration in history, specifically the history technology. The projects I completed include creating and analyzing a new organic compound, traveling to Africa to research Roman water technology, and working at the Tower of London Museum to research visitor satisfaction. I go through all the concepts with the individual pertaining to what portion of statistics they are studying at that time. I will then walk them through a couple of examples demonstrating how to properly obtain the correct answer. I will follow that up by asking them to do a problem without any direct instruction from me. I will watch them work on the problem to assure they are working on it properly. If any mistakes are made I will politely point them out as the individual is working. Finally, I will ask them to work on problems completely on their own and I will check their answers when they are done. I feel the only way to learn statistics, or any math for that matter, is through repetition and working on a lot of problems.
