A Little Bit About Me...

I worked as a teacher's assistant for several years in public schools in Illinois, assisting in K-5 classrooms. I worked at Sylvan Learning Center for 2 years, teaching beginning reading and elementary reading. As I gained experience, I began tutoring students in the school district where I worked. After several years, I became a fifth grade teacher in a private school where I taught for 5 years. In this position, I worked with students on writing skills, and prepared students for our annual math olympics, science fair, and spelling competitions. I tutored individual 4th and 5th graders after school.

I traveled for a year with a family and home-schooled their 3 children. The children were in 1st grade, kindergarten, and pre-school and were seriously below grade level in math and reading. In that year, I brought those children beyond grade level in reading skills and comprehension as well as math skills. I have also been a teacher's assistant in 3rd and 4th grade classrooms and have gone through student teaching in the 3rd and 6th grade in order to complete my degree. I have had most of my experience with the elementary age-group but I also feel confident working through some middle school and high school material.
