As a writer, I spent my early years refining my grammar skills and continued on this path in college, graduate school and in my professional life. I am a published poet and was accepted to attend the 2003 Breadloaf Young Writer's Conference. I I enjoy teaching students of all abilities and specialize in working with gifted and talented youth and youth who are interested in exploring the world in an experiential way. I am the kind of teacher who takes time to get to know a child's individual interests and teach using the student centered model in the classroom. Children learn in different way, and have different levels of enthusiasm for different subjects. I think that the way to encourage a child's success is to identify the ways in which the students learns best, and to understand what subjects/topics interest them. If you can relate to a child, your ability to motivate them and encourage them is amplified. I like to challenge students and to encourage them to think on their own. I believe positive reinforcement is important to children whose self-esteem might be low due to perceived lack of academic ability.
